Headbands for Girls

headbands

I found these easy headbands on Pinterest by Craft Snob.  I had never heard of “fold over elastic” but found some on Amazon.  The hardest part of these was turning them right side out.  I sewed them all up and did that task while watching television.  This is a nice use of fabric scraps or fat quarters.

Easy Pillow Cases

These pillow cases are so easy and only take 3 seams.  I love that the ragged edges are hidden with “French seams”.  I didn’t know what a French seam was before I watched this You Tube Tutorial by Crafty Gemini.  These will be Christmas gifts for little girls and boys.  They were fun to make and only took me about 15 minutes each.

Small Purse Pouch

This pouch tutorial comes from Three Bears.

I had bought some 7″ zippers for another project that was a complete failure.  🙂  So thought I could use up the zippers in these little pouches.  I didn’t line them, because I didn’t know quite how to do that, and didn’t really have the time to figure it out.  I needed 4 small pouches for Christmas gifts.

I thought they turned out very cute.  The only thing I didn’t different from the tutorial was to fuse two pieces of coordinating fabric together with “no sew” heat bonding to make it a little sturdier.

Baby Bib

Here is something I’m adding to the baby gift I’m working on — these cute baby bibs from Wolves in London.

They have a flannel front and a terry cloth back.  So you can catch all the dribbles and then wipe the little face clean with the back.  So cute!  Love the zebras.  I even managed to get the snaps on.  They aren’t perfect – but as I always say, that’s how you can tell they are homemade.

Hooded Bath Towel

I found out I will be attending a very small baby shower for a co-worker, so I have a good opportunity to put my DIY baby gifts together into a nice present:  receiving blankets, burp cloths, and this hooded bath towel from Mickiswing.

It’s kind of hard to tell from the picture, but this turned out really cute.  And once I figured out what I was doing, it probably took only about 15 minutes to sew it up.  It will actually be a bit large for a newborn, but the baby can use it up until kindergarten!  I think I will make a couple more for Christmas presents.

Baby Receiving Blanket

I wanted to make a receiving blanket to go with the Burp Cloths.  I used this idea from Barb at Turtles and Tails to get started.  I used two pieces of flannel, one patterned and one plain yellow, each about 32″ by 40″.  I washed the fabric, cut two squares, put right sides together and sewed all the way around, except for a 4″ opening to turn the blanket.  I trimmed the corners and turned it right side out.  Then sewed all around the edge, closing in the 4″ opening and sewing over it.

I think it turned out nice.  If you can sew a fairly straight line, you can make these.  When flannel goes on sale, stock up!
